Founded in 1890, Conwy has a distinguished history in championship golf and in July 2006 it became the first club in Wales to have the honour of being a local final qualifying venue for The Open Championship played at Royal Liverpool. The club also staged the 2007 Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open. Situated between sea, mountains and a river, Conwy is a traditional links course that throws in deep bunkers, gorse and some very strong par 4’s. Several of the holes of the front nine skirt the estuary itself giving views to enjoy over the bay to Llandudno, Anglesey and beyond. As the course turns to the back nine many of the holes are played beneath the splendid backdrop of the Conwy Mountains. When players reach the 15th tee the course enters into gorse country for what many have described as one of the most testing finishes in golf.

Ever since its opening back in 1894 Llandudno (North Wales) has garnered itself a highly respected reputation having hosted seemingly every top regional event imaginable. The course is situated on Llandudno’s West Shore, overlooking Conwy Bay, therefore provides a quite stunning links test. It is a natural links course in every aspect with the front nine like similar to Troon, in that it runs alongside a railway line with the homeward stretch along the coast.

The Dunoon is a handsome building in a beautifully preserved Victorian seaside town, a 50-bedroom hotel of antiques and oak panels, of old world elegance and formality, of warmth and intimacy. The air is relaxed and comfortable not hushed or reverential, the service personal and attentive rather than fussy and overbearing. A 3 star hotel (AA 82% Merit Rating), UK Gold Award Great Rail Journeys (2011), UK Hotel of the Year (Les Routiers 2009).

Please Note

As links courses, even though Conwy and North Wales are well drained and frost tends not to hit the coast so there shouldn't be any temporary green issues, snow would inevitably close the courses. In the unlikely event of this happening, you must all be aware that you may well lose your deposits. The hotel are unlikely to accept a cancellation at very short notice, so the choice would be to either travel to the hotel for a non-golfing get-together or stay at home but still pay for the hotel.
